ThatBrownGuy says: Big Fan of Suda51! My question, if you could make a game that consists of any characters from a number of games, who would the cast consist of?
Ang3l says: About the PAL version of No More Heroes 2, do you know if the blood will be replaced by black particles, like the first game ?
torisu (RSG) says: I can answer the question about the blood - it will be the bloody version.
fergiepunk says: Do you think you'll ever make another adventure game? Why do you generally release games for nintendo consoles? Have you ever considered trying a game like Michigan again? How do you feel about not being involved on the 360/ps3 version of No More Heroes? Some people list you as one of the most creative game designers around, do you feel that your ideas come naturally or do you set out aiming to make something different?
Deadpool says: Hi, I am from Chile, South America, My English is not the best, but i do my best, with my friends we are big fans of NO MORE HEROES and NO MORE HEROES 2, but i have 2 questions, in the NO MORE HEROES 3, why not have a option to ride in motocycle and dont have to do Jobs, and the another, we can to do the New No more heroe?? muchas Gracias/ THANKS SO MUCH
LReiviN says: 1) What do you think about making a wrestling game in the future? a lucha libre or japanese style game could be pretty badass 2) No more heroes is my favorite game series, but, is it possible a no more heroes... without travis as main character? 3) Have you thought about directing a movie or a short film? PS: offtopic but i want to know suda´s opinion :D: I'm your biggest fan and I hope to work at grasshopper some day :) is it possible that a latin american dreamer can do that? ^^
Darkbubu says: Hello :) I'm a huge french fan of Suda51 productions since KILLER7 on gamecube and travis touchdown is the best character ever created ^^ My question is about the Ds remake of The Silver Case and is sequel Silver Case, 25 Ward. Do you plan an european release ? If yes, the game will be translated like Contact or Flower, Sun and Rain :) ? Thanks :)
Majuts says: How does Suda-san feel about a possible Killer 7 sequel or a new game with a similar style? Any news on the project he is working on with Shinji Mikami? What is his opinion on western developed games in comparison to Japanese games? And does he also think Japanese developers in general have stagnated like Keiji Inafune and Hideo Kojima have stated in the past?
Bakamano says: What I would like to ask is a very simple question. Now we all know Suda-san is known for having some over the top story-lines and gameplay ideas. But my question is not about that, I mean the stuff with Henry was really funny and did leave you wanting more, it was really well done. But at the end of the credits for the game Sylvia shows up and says "Too bad there isn't going to be a sequel." So if you have not figured out my question by now it is. Why did you make a No More Heroes 2? After you said there wasn't going to be one. I am looking foreword to it, but I would have liked to see you hold true to what you said. For me it made is somewhat more enjoyable to get all this information about Henry and Travis and have no closer about it, it made me laugh quite a-bit. Also, how did you work on toping No More Heroes story? and can we expect to get another Henry incident about another twin brother at the end of No More Heroes 2?
r0b0 says: I'm mad in love with your games, and since i have finished your second no more heroes 2, i was wondering if you had anything in plan for shinobu?
jodorowsky51 says: Alexandro Jodorowsky is possibly the best film creator of all time. His work is just stunning. Like Jodorowsky, you are also an anarchist of entertainment something which I heavily respect. Have you ever wanted to contact Jodorowsky and someday work with him? I know for a fact that if you and he worked together, the world will die...nothing will be able to handle that! Finally, I just want to say that you have been the biggest inspiration I have had in the last ten years, so thank you and one day, I hope to join the industry and rival your work.
LReiviN says: @Bakamano: "Why did you make a No More Heroes 2? After you said there wasn't going to be one" I can answer that. the game shows a message saying "to be continued" right after sylvia´s last words.
MasterPogi says: Hello, Suda51-san, I have been an avid fan of your video games since the release of Killer7, and No More Heroes is definitely one of the most excellent games I have ever had the pleasure of playing. I have many questions I would love to ask you!~ What are the chances of having a Killer7 sequel? If the chances are high, what new additions and renovations would you implement into the series? And also, would you invite Masafumi Takada to compose the music once again? However, if the chances for a sequel are low, would a re-make for another system be possible a la Heroes' Paradise? Even that would be greatly appreciated. Reviewing upon the release of No More Heroes 2, were there any aspects of the game that you would now change? Your games are lavished with intellectual genius, and you never cease to convey underlying and sometimes complex messages within the story of your games (especially in Killer7). Where did you get the inspiration for creating stories in this manner? Both Killer7 and No More Heroes had comics, but have you ever considered an anime or manga of No More Heroes or Killer7? If so, which production companies would you choose to help you create them? Would you also use music tracks from the games if you were to make an anime of either of them? Lastly, will Heroes' Paradise be released state-side this year? If so, will all of the extras be included as they are in Japan, and will an English voice-over option be available? Will there be an artbook of NMH2 and Heroes Paradise in the future? And that concludes my overly-curious questionnaire. I hope all is well, Suda-san, and please continue your work for years to come! ;) Thanks!
Polysics2004 says: It's well known that you're a big fan of English culture (the England football team in particular), but would you ever consider making a game that's set in England?
infernohi5 says: Suda-san, one of my favorite aspects of your games is the excellent sound and music work. I noticed that Jun Fukuda was the sole sound engineer on No More Heroes 2 (he did an excellent job, by the way). Nevertheless, the absence of Masafumi Takada was conspicuous. Is he still associated with Grasshopper? If so, why didn't you team him up with Jun Fukuda, as you did on Killer7 and No More Heroes?
supertravistouchdown says: is there gonna another no more heroes myself i wish you still ride your bike a lil more than you did if you do make 3rd make more robot fights that was amazing i didn't care for that clash wheres it makes the game really short that was stupid srz but it was and if you could play more of shnobu or Henry or make a game off of Henry or shnobu but my main qustion is will there be a nmh3 cus i really didn't care for nmh2 ending so say somthing
Mikaveli says: Lately, it seems you're not so much involved in game development, you seems to be more focus in game producing and managing your company. Sorry to say that but it appears to be like that. For example, No More Heroes is, in my opinion, a common game. A game made to be profitable to the company (it's not a crime). The story and the characters are cool but we are far from games like Killer 7, Michigan or F.S.R.. I understand that as a CEO you have to manage your company and make it prosperous (a lot of people depends on you). Is it difficult to be a CEO and game designer at the same time? Will we have the chance to see a "true" Suda 51 game in the future? Kurayami is still alive?
Andersonman says: Before I ask my question, I'd like to thank you for making games like Killer7 and No More Heroes 1&2. I've found these games engrossing, very entertaining, and inspirational on certain levels. I really appreciate all the efforts put into NMH2 as other than the gameplay I've also been enjoying how it really can insult the average western otaku and the feeble mindset they have on things like how they approached this sequel and what they were expecting. I could go on but that wouldn't be right, so here's my question: you're often compared to Quentin Tarantino in videogame terms, what are your thoughts on his last film Inglorious Basterds? Would you believe that it was a noble vision on film making or was it something unbearably overdone?
diendong says: As a huge wrestling fan, I was very happy to see Mitsuharu Misawa's Emerald Flowsion as one of Travis's wrestling moves. Were there any wrestling moves you would like to see Travis do? Personally, I would like to see Travis do the Shining Wizard and the Burning Hammer.
bloodxberry says: Goichi Suda, will you marry me? ;~;
Foggle says: Suda51! Man, I love your name! Can you shed any light on your upcoming horror project with Mikami? Also, which No More Heroes character would you like to explore further in the third game (since Travis probably won't be the hero in it)? Thanks! Miike's cameo in Desperate Struggle was AWESOME, by the way.
Notymenow says: Wow, big fan since Killer 7's international release; anyway, is there currently any possibility for a stateside release of Moonlight Syndrome?
ThatOneGuy says: Suda51, I've been a big fan of your games ever since I first played Killer7- in fact, that was the game that got me back into gaming! Your work has inspired me to choose a career in game design as well. Thanks a lot! Anyway, here are my questions: -Are you planning on doing any more games in the 'Kill the Past' series? I loved 'Flower, Sun and Rain' and I'd like to see more adventure games like that. -Are you planing any more games with tone and plot similar to 'Killer7' or 'Flower, Sun and Rain'? Something I really liked about those were the almost dreamlike atmosphere, and the confusing plots that required multiple playthroughs to fully understand. -Can you give an estimate to how soon 'The Silver Case' could arrive in the United States? Are you planning on bringing any of the 'Syndrome' (particularly 'Moonlight Syndrome') to here as well? -I've heard that you wanted to remake 'Michigan'. Is this true? If you do, please keep the ridiculous B-movie aesthetic! -Is Masafumi Takada still writing music for your games? I feel his style really meshes with yours. That's all for now! Thank you so much for answering our questions!
shadowman (RSG) says: When are you coming to Australia Suda51 : )
Shishi says: Greetings to Rising Star Games and Suda 51 from a fan of Grasshopper Studio Manufacturers that is living in Florida. If I am correct, No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle was the first sequel that the company ever developed, which leads to my two part question. I am curious as to what Suda 51 feels is the biggest goal him and his team were able to accomplish with this game that was not in the first game? On the opposite, what was one thing he wishes they had more time to expand, improve, or add (maybe a gameplay feature from the old game such as max chan or maybe the addition of three to five more assassins to do battle with)? Thank you for your time and consideration if my question is asked and I say thank you again in the event that I receive an answer.
TrevorFieldgoal says: Suda 51, I am a huge fan of the No More Heroes series. I have two questions: 1. If Travis is not the main character of No More Heroes 3, can you shed some light on who might be? 2. Will there ever be a real Bizarre Jelly anime? Because that would be amazing.
Hukuzo says: Would you allow Travis or other characters to make cameos in other games if given the opportunity? Such as a crossover fighting game or something like that. We all know how badass Travis could have been in Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
yeahcool says: 1.) What is your opinion of the gaming industry? Do you feel that your games reflect on your thoughts? 2.) Has anything helped inspire the bosses in No More Heroes? They're really off-the-wall! 3.) What is your advice for people who are interested in making games?
SuperHiki says: Thank you for answering English speakers' questions! My question is how do you feel about seeing fan creations of your work? Would you like to see the universes you create being used by other people or characters being made to fit into your works? I know you know fanart exists, what do you like seeing? Thank you again, you are a hero of a close friend and I!
RayGamma says: Greetings from Russia, Suda-san. 1.) How are you doing lately? ^^ 2.)What do you think about Platinum Games recent works? And would you like to make a game together with Hideki Kamiya?
beemoh says: 1/ How do you feel about the current state of the Japanese games industry? Many seem to be saying that it's massively in decline, and more and more developers seem to be targeting a Western audience- is it better for Japanese developers to attempt to make games in a Western style, or would they be better off finding their own voice? 2/ What is your opinion of all the articles which have analysed the first NMH, like the one on the RSG blog here: http://www.risingstargames.com/blog/why-youre-no-more-hero.html
legato says: Suda-san, first of all I want to say I loved the original No More Heroes game but when I was playing Desperate Struggle (US version), it is great, the Boss Battles are once again insane and the action very good! But, there were some things I missed from the previous game, I think the game was great, but sometimes it feels like I was playing a stripped version of the first game. (No more card collection, just two swords at naomi, no more side-job murder missions, except for a few revenge missions and no more Santa Destroy T_T) Was it due to budget cuts that those features were cut out of the sequel or were there other reasons to do so?
Pizzamann says: Domo, Suda-san, I really appreciate your work, your designer (game+chara) skills are really incredible, No More Heroes is definitively one of the most artistic and well designed games ever! I've got a lot of questions to ask, but because I guess you'll have to answer a few ones, I'll only ask 2: 1) Where do you take your inspiration from? Do you sit on the toilet(like Travis), do you watch Bizarre Jerry(like Travis), or do you even assassinate people with your beam katana(like Travis)? 2) How did you become a Game Director? What did you study, what obstacles stood in your way, what did your family think of it? (Important question because I would like to become a game director myself)
ThatBrownGuy says: Some more questions: Suda-san, if you could direct/produce any game from any series, what would it be? Did you ever play Madworld? What did you think of it? Travis meets Jack? Would be a great concept! Where do you get your Supras from?
norbi says: You have created games with very interesting twists and elements, mostly guns and violence in a urban setting. Would you ever consider drifting away from that sort of idea and perhaps try something more fantasy, RPG-like?
thepowerof says: Man, thanks for making The no more heroes games which are some great fun to play. K, my question is will we ever have a answer to some of the unanswered question from no more heroes series? Like who was that little girl at the end of the first game and if you are or ever planning making a game on harry since I felt like his part in the second wasn't huge or anything I would love to see a game about him.
sabi says: Hello Suda~ I've been a big fan of No More Heroes, and Grasshopper Manufacture's games in general, for quite some time now. I've played any I've had the chance to. I've been aspiring to go into the career of a video game artist, and I've been wondering what the likelihood of ever being able to work for Grasshopper would be? Is there any special qualifications or skills I would need in order to do this?
tacomachef says: 1) When creating a game, do you have a story arc in mind for sequels, or are they created after the game has been released? 2) Any future plans for a return of Killer7 or it's cast? 3) Is there a possibility of Santa Destroy and the cast of Killer 7 ever crossing paths? Thanks so much, Suda. I'm a big fan of your work.
Baroquemoon says: I have one question Suda. What are the odds of Travis or another No More Heroes character appearing in a cameo in another game in the distant future ? For me, No More Heroes characters had ridiculous amounts of appeal and style, almost too good to have lost them if they died in either game!
loempiavreter says: Suda51 will we ever see an Artbook for Desperate Struggle? I enjoyed the artwork the cards gave you in NMH1, but I heard they where not in Desperate Struggle.
SirHenryMF says: Hello Suda! At this point in your life, what do you consider as your greatest achievement?
chao99 says: well i doubt this will ever be accepted but ever since playing no more heroes 2 i wanted to ask suda why is no more heroes 2 so simple? no more heroes 1 had philosophical meanings to it as well as being weird and funny but in 2 it seems you threw all the deep aspects out (the exception being alice moonlight/twilight) in the favor of just being weird. i ask this out of concern because you suda51 were one of the last great developers who try to rather then make something mindless, tries to make a experience
hahahazel says: Mister Suda51 sir, words cannot express just how much of an idol you are to me, and as I'm not there in person to stare and stammer in awe, I'll cut to the chase: Who is your favourite assassin in the whole No More Heroes series? Who is your favourite Killer7 character? What's your favourite food? May I shine your shoes!?
suto says: Dear Sudasan, the only thing I am wondering about, after having finished both no more heroes games, beside them being a parody of modern game and movie cliches, is, if there truly is a deeper meaning to them like many seem to believe. Especially after the somewhat mysterious and confusing ending scene of nmh2 between Travis and Sylvia. I read some analysis to both games of which one even takes the games as a commentary to gaming itself. But i myself felt that, compared to for example killer 7, which I think obviously dealt with philosophical and political themes, the nmh series wasn't intended to be taken that seriously. I just want to go sure so that I don't wrongly undervalue work which went into the games. Also I want to thank you for the Henry fight on Bitter in nmh1 which in my opinion is one of the greatest and most challenging bossfights of the genre and for Killer 7, which is one of those few games that can still leave an impression on someone who is now playing games for more than 20 years already, which isn't exactly an easy task. I truly thank you and your team for the effort that went into these games and am looking forward to see more great games from you and your studio in the future. 敬具 スト
suto says: Btw. here is my analysis of the ending of NMH2. I know it is propably much too long to ask Sudasan about it but it's worth a try i guess: The ending sequence, like the rest oft he game, to m eis a parody of the avatar-player bonding in games and of established story concepts, with a (in a somewhat funny way) melodramatic script wrapped around it. It seems to play after the incidents of the second game but it simultaneously annotates the actual development of the game. For example: before the rank 1 battle at the end of the game Sylvia mentions, that the facility in which the conversation (or rather monologue) takes place is going the be shut down, which obviously is a hint at the game going to end soon. Also the question of Slyvia, where she asks if the listener is going to expect something special on the last day is a parody of the standardized expectation that the end of a game got to be something special (though this obviously is a contradiction since it can't be special if it's always the same thing, which makes this really a nice aspect of this scene). The last sequence is about the avatar-player bonding I think. Through to comments of Sylvia it becomes clear, that the player takes only a passive role in the storyline as being the recipient. This situation is parodized when Sylvia speaks to the player and begs for an answer or to hear the voice of the one who is listening to hear and also after this when she says that she didn't expect an answer to begin with (since the player can't answer her). This situation is eventually dissolved through to engagement of Travis, who, being the avatar, is the symbol for connection of the player to the virtual world of the game. He is the binding element and the tool for interaction with the game for the player. Without him the interaction with the NPCs seems impossible. This is maybe also indicated by the lonely Sylvia in her room which is supposed to take place after the last fight with Batt, so it takes place after the interaction by the player through Travis ends. What I actually could not make sense of is the comment of Sylvia about opening her eyes and when Travis says, that “he finally found her”. Maybe it is a hint for another No More Heroes game?^^ I would really like Sudasan to answer that questen. ;) Ps: sry for the bad grammar.
Pizzamann says: Dear Suda-san, who do you think is the best game character of all times (except Travis), considering the design, the personality, etc.
Tokaro says: Dear Suda 51, it is an honor and a pleasure to get to ask you, my idol a question. So here it goes, Can you give us any information on Project S, your collab with Kojima-san? Is it a new IP? A lot of buzz was going around that it's a Snatcher remake. I for one would love to see your grunge punk take on Hideo Kojima's cyberpunk classic. I planned on asking about something Killer7 or No More Heroes related but I think you've given the video game public the tools to make their own minds about the two. You're a credit to the industry, thank you for your time.
oldskool says: Hi Suda, In an early interview you were asked what inspired the No More Heroes series and how the creative process works. Your answer was that your inspiration came from books, tv, music and all sorts of media and you took a dump and NMH was formed. My question is very simple; Could you please post some of your/ your spouse's recipes?
mattkl08 says: Hi Suda51! Now that No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle has been released (to rave reviews no less) is your attention now on your upcoming EA horror project? Also will work on the Nintendo DS port of The Silver Case resume?
meganebeam says: Hello, Suda-san. I'm a big fan of the No More Heroes franchise, so I was wondering. Some gaming experts hypothesize that NMH's story is much deeper than its tongue-in-cheek, self-referencing humor makes it out to be. One gaming website even devoted articles about how it's a commentary about the video gamer and the gaming industry. But a lot of people don't think there's that much meaning behind the crazy story at all. So my question is, what was your intention behind NMH's story? Did you want it to hint at a deeper meaning, or were you simply having fun coming up with wild plot twists and turns? Thank you very much, and good luck with your works to come!
Squall says: konnichiwa Suda-san, first of all, thank you for making all this great games, i found them to be unique, really fun and inspiring, keep up the good work. My question is, if you could be one of all the characters you´ve created so far, which one would you like to be and why? and if you were a lucha libre fighter, what will your name be? thanks :) Greetings form a mexican fan.
SmashBrosMike says: No more Heroes 1 great game, No more heroes 2 was a good game awesome graphics, Silvia WOW, the fact that you no longer have to pay the fee to the Association is nice, but it also made it shorter I think, anyway What was up with the retro minigames? I personally did not like them, and call me crazy but I heard once that the AI was going to be better, but I found the game to be easier than the first one. I really hope there will be a no more heroes 3 cause I am a bigfan of travis and Suda's games like killer 7 it was no a game for everyone, but I really liked it. And have you ever considered adding a VS mode? sort of like Star Gladiator.... but better and much faster. Anyways keep up the good work, you've inspired me to go and try to make my own game, so if you ever see a travis look alike please don't sue me....
torisu (RSG) says: Thanks all for your responses :)
manoo205 says: @ Bakamano , although Silivia says "to bad there won't be a sequel" you also noticed that "TO BE CONTINUED" sentence inspired (if not just copied) from Back to the Future. So I think, Suda was neither sure about both options until he saw they sold OK. My question would be are you not afraid that hardcore gamers in Wii are used to wait when buying games when Non-Nintendo games drop their price drastically? I bought No More Heroes for 10 euros, although the second part I will buy it the very first day!!!
manoo205 says: My question again What are you feelings about Nintendo gamers buying your games only when they drop dramatically the price and what do you suggest to avoid it? Why don't you try to contact Quentin Tarantino and show him Travis TouchDown story? I am sure it will fit with the way he thinks!
torisu (RSG) says: Instead of doing a written interview we decided to film it, so it will take a little longer to upload to the site. Thanks again all for your questions.
