Rising Star collaborates with Spanish Fragile Dreams fans
08.03.2010 In Games / By torisu (RSG)

Unique partnership sees fans work around the clock to translate over 35,000 words in a first-time project

Monday 8th March 2010: In an unprecedented move, leading video games publisher Rising Star Games has today announced it has teamed up with Spanish fans of Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon to translate the game's script, so they can enjoy it in its entirety.

Spanish website DSWii.es (part of Blogocio.net) approached Rising Star with the unique idea and, following an announcement calling for volunteers to participate in the translation, recruited a group of 50 dedicated gamers from their loyal community to take part in the meticulous process.

The move reinforces Rising Star's commitment to listening and trusting its audience, and the importance it places on being an approachable publisher.

The Fragile Dreams script contains over 35,000 words and Rising Star recognises the incredible effort going into the initiative. When completed, the Fragile Dreams translation will be available as a digital download via DSWii.es and through Rising Star's website, free of charge, following the game's launch on 19th March.

"This is a great opportunity for us to connect with our fan base in Spain through such a unique and innovative project," says Raul Nieto Garcia, marketing manager at Rising Star Games. "We hope Spanish gamers will appreciate the joint efforts of Blogocio and Rising Star games to provide the best experience possible when playing Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon on their Nintendo Wii."

"The most important aspect of this translation is not that the game arrives in Spanish, but that this is the first time in history in which gamers will participate actively in such a project," says Hugo Fraga, director of content and marketing at Blogocio Media SL. "That's the really exciting thing about this project."

"We'll try to coordinate as best as possible to ensure all stakeholders collaborate to make this an example of a project created by fans in conjunction with a video game company," adds Raul Millan, technical director at Blogocio Media SL.

"As artistic director I'm responsible for the design of Blogocio's websites and projects, but the layout of this translation guide is a new challenge for me," says Jose Miguel Blanco, creative director at Blogocio Media SL. "Time is limited but a project of this importance deserves a good design and layout work. "

Progress on the translation can be monitored on the Blogocio website: http://fragile.blogocio.net. Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon launches on 19th March for Wii.

Celedin says: Wow, it's very admirable to see a publisher be so open to things such as this with it's fans. I hope it works out for everyone!
Buntaro says: Huge thumbs up for everyone involved.
CSP says: Oh I am sorry but this is ridiculous. You are willing to let someone else translate the game into Spanish FOR FREE, yet you still fail to include one of the most important thing in the games you distribute. Having the motto "Home of the Japanese games" I expected to at least give those games the respect they deserve and I mean the dual audio option. Specifically for Fragile I have watched videos on youtube on both the Japanese and the English voices and I got to say the English ones make my ears bleed. Make a poll and ask how many people will greatly appreciate the option to play the game as it was originally intended and you may reconsider. As it stands, it pains me to say that having bought lux-pain I can not play the version I got since the vastly superior UNDUB version is out from the fans and since Fragile will be undubbed soon, I will probably do the same. PLEASE make me play the games I buy from you. The Fragile ISO is 3.2G so I am sure 1G is more than enough to add the Japanese voice track. I am probably talking to a wall here since the game has already been mass produced but I would highly appreciate a reply on this.
torisu (RSG) says: CSP, Fragile Dreams PAL *will* have Japanese voices. This has, as far as I know, always been the case - I'm not sure why you think otherwise.
CSP says: from wikipedia "In an interview with IGN concerning the English localization of the game, Xseed stated that they will attempt to give players a dual-language option in addition to new content for the North American release. However, they are unsure if it will be entirely possible." Ok this is from XSeed not rising star, but you can see why I am worried here. As for the company's other games, I had to stop playing Luminous Arc because I wanted to tear my ears out and restarted the game on the undub, lux-pain is another example, I just bought rune factory and I am too scared to even check if there is a dual audio option (ok this is not really needed on this game but still) so I would like a reply from the company on this matter.
torisu (RSG) says: Fair enough, I did not know plans were uncertain back then - that part of the Wikipedia article is based on an IGN interview from May 2009 with Xseed's localisation manager:
IGN: Will you keep the Japanese dub as an alternative for those who want it? Kenji: We've already asked the development team to add a voice option where the player can choose from English or Japanese audio, and the initial feedback has been promising. Nothing is certain yet, but I'm sure they will do everything possible to add that option in so keep your fingers crossed.
I can confirm that our version of the game will give gamers the choice between the Japanese or English voice acting.
CSP says: oh thank God. Many thanks for the update. Still though, I would like to ask, does Rising Star have any control over this, can they choose to include the Japanese VA even if the US distributor chooses not to?
torisu (RSG) says: It depends...!
