GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN – 29 August 2014 – It has been 5 months since the release of Cloudbuilt and already we have seen numerous improvements, features, free DLC and optimisation to the game; however, Cloudbuilt’s most significant enhancement has only just arrived.
The latest patch sets out to address the feedback from Cloudbuilt’s community whilst preserving the fast and frantic gameplay that has players hooked from the start. Throughout August, Coilworks has been trialing gameplay adjustments with Cloudbuilt’s top players and fresh newcomers to rework the controls into something accessible for beginners but still delivers the responsiveness and precision required to top the leaderboards.
“Our first objective for this patch was to break down the barriers preventing new players from getting the most fun out of Cloudbuilt. Our initial control scheme was capable of great precision however it could also be punishing and unforgiving especially to unpracticed players. During the open beta we worked in collaboration with the community to refine elements of movement creating more flexible and forgiving player control” explains Coilworks.
Specifically wall running, edge climbing, shooting and aerial movement have all been under the microscope. With wall running being such a large part of Cloudbuilt it is clear why Coilworks have invested their time improving it allowing the runner to now influence speed and change direction during the wall run. Effective management of momentum will carry through the most speed but the wall run mechanic is now more accommodating of small mistakes. Accidental edge hanging will now be a thing of the past as Demi will require a delirate movement to trigger the action. In addition to these elements numerous small tweaks and changes have been discussed, play-tested and evaluated by beta participants leading to a much smoother in-game experience.
“The second area we wanted to take a look at were the enemies. We’ve had a lot of feedback from the community regarding the strength and behaviour of the hostiles you face in Cloudbuilt. We have always wanted the enemies to pose a challenge however we noticed a number of players were having problems understanding how they worked, and thus had a much harder time than we initially intended. To overcome this issue we have made a number of changes to make them more readable to the player. Particular hostiles have also had their defense mechanisms altered in order to remove their impression of immortality.”
Coilworks have done an exceptional job of taking in feedback from the fan base and modifying the game accordingly to enhance the experience for everyone. A theme throughout this patch has been making Cloudbuilt more accessible to new and more casual players. The goal is not to lower the skill ceiling of the game, but to lower the skill requirement to enjoy it. With all these enhancements now is a great time to begin your platforming adventure in the skies. For the veteran runners out there, this patch also brings new achievements and customization in addition to a control tweaks which brings new freedom and ways to experiment.
“Cloudbuilt is a project which will always be close to our heart at Coilworks. Since release we have received an amazing response from the community and it has allowed us to keep improving the game month after month. We are sincerely grateful to all the players who have contributed their feedback via the forums, email and social media and it is awesome to recognize how you have helped shape the game. We encourage all players to join us on the Steam forums. We look forward to seeing you there!”
Our thanks goes out to Coilworks and the beta participants who have made this all possible! Be sure to check out Cloudbuilt and let us know what you think of the improvements in the comments below. For more details on the patch see the official changelog here.
