The last 3 days have gone by in a whirlwind of excitement, discovery and competition for us at the Cloudbuilt launch stand for Eurogamer’s Rezzed 2014. We were immensely proud to be representing such a game in front of the thousands of expo-goers over the weekend. A quick shout-out to Coilworks who unfortunately couldn’t make the show due to dedicating their valuable time and efforts to the community ensuring Cloudbuilt’s launch was a success. We had many expo veterans asking after Coilworks who had met them in the past. They’re obviously very popular people!
Overall the show was a tremendous event and we’ve never had so much fun showcasing a game to the public. Everybody we met was enthusiastic to find out more about Cloudbuilt and we enjoyed answering all the questions you could fire at us. There were certainly a few ‘Bambies on Ice’ experiencing 3D platforming for the first time, but they soon spread their wings and learnt to apply their jetpacks and parkour stunts in order to complete the levels before them. We felt like proud parents watching our offspring mature into competent avid speed runners having succeeded in ‘The Initial Entry’ (second tutorial) after a rocky start. It’s awesome to see that undisguisable sense of achievement present from the first time you play, right through to the pros managing to clear an S-Rank in the later stages of the game. We wish Coilworks were there to see it!
Cloudbuilt doesn’t take long to get into and the goal is always clear. This definitely contributed to the stand being a show hit and always having our computers occupied with curious gamers wanting to discover more of this fantasy utopia. Cloudbuilt looked absolutely stunning on the hardware provided and with Razer keyboards and mice, the controls were as sharp and responsive as intended. Just as well, because competition was fierce in our T-shirt challenge where players fought to score a B-Rank in an early level. It took some persistence, but you guys got there in the end! Well done to the contestants who took home a trophy and we know you will wear it with pride! Find all your victory snaps on the Cloudbuilt Facebook page soon alongside more pictures from the show. Thanks to those of you who couldn’t wait to get into the T-shirt for the show, spreading the word like wide fire! However you did mean the weekend’s allocation of T-shirts flew from the stand in just a few hours, even after we upped the challenge!
We also used the show to test out an early build with controller support! We’re grateful for the console gamers who keenly experienced the game through analogue sticks and provided us with feedback. You guys proved it’s possible to get a competitive score using a gamepad and we look forward to seeing your triumphs on the worldwide leaders soon.
To conclude, we had a fantastic time! A superb game, an enthusiastic and engaging audience and buckets of positive energy. Shows like Rezzed remind us all what an amazing industry video games are and just how many passionate and talents individuals there are out there making and playing our favourite past-time. We can’t wait until next time!
